Philip M. Sampson is a physician associate and children’s author based in California. He is the author of Jimmy Goes to the Emergency Department, a children’s book created to help young readers feel less afraid when they need emergency medical care.

Philip has been in medical practice for nearly 27 years. For 22 of those years, he worked in emergency medicine, where he cared for patients during some of their most stressful and uncertain moments. His clinical background also includes urgent care, family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and urology.

His work with patients and families has shaped the heart of his writing. Philip understands that children often need more than instructions when they are scared. They need reassurance, simple explanations, and adults who can help them make sense of what is happening.

Through the character of Jimmy, Philip writes stories that turn difficult childhood experiences into teachable, comforting, and sometimes funny moments. His books help children explore fear, pain, embarrassment, conflict, digital pressure, and emotional growth in a way that feels safe and relatable.
